April is coming up aces with our coffee of the month Mt Elgon Uganda!
Uganda, at the heart of East Africa, straddles the equator and is the source of the Nile. It benefits from a bi-modal rainfall season, high altitudes and a pleasant, year-round climate. Nearly all of the country’s coffee is produced by smallholder farmers who intercrop their coffee fields with shade trees and bananas. Our partners, Genuine Origin started their sustainability work in Uganda in 2007, and their Farmer Support teams are known for their innovations and continuous guidance toward improvements. We’re proud to be working with more than 10,000 Arabica farmers and with them creating some of the best specialty coffee Uganda has ever produced.
This Genuine Origin Mt. Elgon was created from five distinct batches, harvested on Oct. 10, Oct. 24, Oct. 27, Nov. 2 and Nov. 7, 2017. Two of the batches were fully dried in the sun, and three batches were finished in a vertical dryer. The team chose these five batches based on their cupping flavors, which ranged from floral and citrus to coffee blossom and candy-like.
