Did you ever walk into a specialty coffee shop and look at all those menu options and have no idea what you were going to get? Well, we’re going to clear up some of that stuff for you. This week we’re talking about the most basic of espresso based drinks – the latte.
A latte can be a lot of different things in a lot of different shops, but basically, it’s usually about an eight or a 12 ounce drink but some shops will do up to 16 or 20 ounces. Personally, drinks that big are not very good. I feel like 8 to 12 ounces is definitely the sweet spot. Plus, you’ve got a double shot of espresso in there. And a whole lot of steamed milk and then just a little bit of foam on the top.
If you got a really good latte, they’re probably pouring some latte art on the top of it, you get a little rosette or a heart which makes it just pop out of the cup and be fantastic.
You’ve got a really sweet tasting milk in there from the steaming and from the frothing of the milk. And then you got your espresso with it’s hopefully blending in there just right and you get a nice coffee flavor with that.
That’s what a latte is. It’s a fantastic drink. It’s probably the most popular drink on an espresso menu. Almost every flavored drink you’ll see on the menu is basically a latte with some kind of flavor shot in it. If you like sweet stuff in your coffee, you can be very sure you’ll love a flavored latte.
