Happy New Year coffee fans! 2018 is fast approaching us and leaving 2017 with a lot of coffee recipes discovered and more to come! Why not treat yourself to a delicious after dinner treat that also helps you stay awake to welcome the new year? Do it in style with a Bourbon Barrel Aged coffee with homemade cinnamon ice cream affogato!

For this recipe we’ll be making a very simple, easy drink that doesn’t have the adult beverages as one might think of for new years. However, if your more up for something that tastes alcoholic but trying to keep the alcohol to a minimum for driving purposes or maybe a new years resolution, this drink doesn’t have any! That’s right, I’m using our Bourbon Barrel Aged coffee and it’s delicious!

So, I loooove ice cream and anytime I get to mix it with coffee, it’s a no brainer for me. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Homemade ice cream? Are you kidding me? That takes forever!” Not to worry, I have something that will blow your mind! It’s called the Curious Creamery Ice Cream Mix you can buy it at Jewel Osco and it comes with two packets of ice cream mix inside. All you have to do is mix whatever ingredients you want the ice cream to taste like in with the packet with a mixer and let it set in the freezer for 12 hours. It’s the best and kinda comforting to know what’s really in your ice cream. I used a 1/2 tsp of cinnamon in the ice cream. You want it to taste like cinnamon but not over power you.

So for our rendition I am using some limited Bourbon Barrel Aged coffee cold brew from FreshGround of course, a cup of cinnamon ice cream, and a little extra cinnamon to top it off. When I first made this I did it with the coffee beans and made hot Barrel Aged coffee, you definitely can do that. You just have to wait for the coffee to cool before you pour it over the ice cream or it’ll just be a puddle. I put the glass I was using in the freezer for about an hour just so everything is really chilled.

I put the ice cream in first followed by the Barrel Aged coffee and filled it to about half the cup. Just so it has a nice bath to soak in. The cinnamon pairs well with the smokiness of the Bourbon. There isn’t any alcohol in this drink but the beans and cold brew give me a warm tingling in my throat like bourbon does when you drink it.

Well there you have it! Enjoy your friends and family as you welcome in 2018. May it be filled with joy, peace, love, and above all, good coffee. Happy New Year!
