Want to know who’s behind your cup of FreshGround coffee? We’ve already introduced you to Wes and Ryan…today, meet Krista.

How long have you been in the coffee world?

I didn’t start drinking coffee until I turned 40 – Eric says after years of kissing him it finally wore off on me!

Seriously…I never liked or appreciated it but didn’t know why until I was introduced to what fresh roasted, not stale “off the store shelves” meant. I never understood all there was to know about coffee – where it comes from, the years of farmers being neglected by this mass industry. What I love most is helping those families. Knowing that our business is helping them means a lot to me as a wife and mom.

What do you do for FreshGround?

I’m co-owner and fill in where ever needed. You can usually find me at the St. Charles and Sugar Grove Markets. I also work on filling orders, billing, keeping Eric grounded.

What other hobbies, interests, jobs, etc. do you have?

As a mom of 4 teens (ages 18, 16, 14, 13), my life is mostly attending all their activities, which I wouldn’t trade for the world! When I’m not working with FreshGround or my secretarial job at church, I love volunteering for the different school PTO’s, or being outdoors (nothing like a backyard fire with s’mores) or watching an action/sci-fi movie or singing in different events (with Eric accompanying me).

What kind of music do you like?

Music is how Eric and I met in college and has always been a huge part of our marriage. I love all kinds of music and it really depends on the mood I’m in. I get picked on for liking Karen Carpenter, but as a young girl I would play her records and try to match my voice to hers so she was my first inspiration. My all time go-to vocalist is Ella Fitzgerald.

What’s your favorite coffee beverage/roast/other coffee-related item?

My favorite coffee of ours is the Honduras – just perfect, plain and simple. My fave food made with coffee has got to be this pudding!

Have you ever tried to copy a celebrity’s hairstyle? Who and when?

Did you make up this question just for me??? Of course! I’m an 80’s girl! We all attempted Farrah Fawcett hair! I miss my 80’s big hair!!!

P.S. This week’s code word is “Farrah Fawcett.” Visit us at farmers’ markets in St. Charles, Batavia, Aurora, Sugar Grove or Elgin from August 22-28. The first 20 people at each of those markets to stop by and repeat the code word get a drink on us! Show up with Farrah Fawcett-esque hair and we’ll make that drink a large.
